Volunteers come together to make 25,000 seed packets a reality

Healthy Foods for Healthy Kids asked for help filling 25,000 seed packets to distribute to every student at each HFHK partner school and our volunteers delivered! HFHK hosted a volunteer event at Historic Penn Farm on Friday, April 19. Music and entertainment was provided by iHeartMedia, with appearances by 94.7 WDSD's Christa Cooper and 92.9 TOM-FM's Kyle McMahon. Refreshments were sponsored, in-part, by Sprouts and Breakthru Beverage. Thanks to earlier efforts from Incyte, Breakthru Beverage, Delaware Master Gardeners, and The Sanford School, we only had 13,000 packets left to fill.

A crew of approximately 75 volunteers from the community, partner schools and corporate partners filled the barn to help! As volunteers arrived, they could choose between adding stickers to small envelopes, filling with seeds or sealing envelopes, stapling informational postcards to each seed packet or packing up to prepare for distribution to schools. All 22,000 participating students were invited to submit photos of them planting the parsley seeds with their families. Four entries were chosen at random on August 1, each winning a $250 grocery gift card. Funds for this project were partially provided by The Laffey-McHugh Foundation.
