HFHK gains national exposure, teaching more than Delaware’s students

Healthy Foods for Healthy Kids staff had a busy first quarter, building the awareness for the good work HFHK is doing with its program.

January 2024:

Lydia and Jen attended Delaware Urban Food and Farm Coalition’s Urban Ag Night where Lydia participated in a panel discussion and presented to the group.

Lydia presented to students at The Sanford School talking about food insecurity and our program.

Lydia attended and presented at a Master Gardeners meeting updating them on HFHK’s growth and future goals.

February 2024: While Lydia and HFHK Chair Lisa Hoffman were helping at the Million Women Mentors: ???

March 2024: The entire staff attended the second Growing School Gardens Summit in San Diego, California a nationwide conference for garden educators. For this nationwide conference for garden educators, HFHK gave two “lightning talks”. Jen presented on the butterfly effects of the garden program and Rachel spoke about how the education cultivation framework utilizes a teamwork approach to engage a variety of different schools. This offered HFHK the amazing opportunity to talk about their organization and program on a national stage.

Rachel will be presenting at the Delaware Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (DAND) annual conference and Lydia will be speaking on a panel for the Physical Activity, Nutrition, and Obesity Prevention (PANO) annual conference. The team is overjoyed at the opportunities to share the impact the Education Cultivation program has. “All this community interest speaks volumes” said Program Coordinator Rachel Terracina, “not only are more people passionate towards the school garden movement, it’s becoming a headlining topic.”
